Standing Desk Converter vs. Sit/Stand Desks
Week 3: Sit/Stand Desks vs. Sit/Stand Converters
This week’s throw down relies more on personal preference than on cold hard scientific facts. Our goal is to help you figure out the best solution for making your work station less sedentary. We'll look at whether a new sit/stand desk, or converting your existing desk is best for you.
Both options will allow you to both sit and stand to work, so how do you choose what works for you?
SIT/STAND DESKS

Pros:
- You have as much space to utilize as you do now with your regular desk. You can even keep the same layout if it is ergonomic and you like the way things are organized!
- You have the option to secure your monitors and keyboard with monitor arms and keyboard trays.
- You can add a keyboard tray and play with what angle of typing is best for your comfort.
Cons:
- You have to try to get rid of your old desk.
- Most options are a slightly higher price point than converters. You can check out our products here.
SIT/STAND CONVERTERS

Pros:
- As an ad-on to your existing desk, you're not making any major office changes.
- Most options are at a lower price point. You can check out our products here.
Cons:
- Most converters take up a lot of space on your desk and don’t allow for as much free space for your papers and other documents. If you are a person who is strictly using a monitor, keyboard, mouse this should not be an issue for you. If you get overwhelmed by the pile of papers on your desk this one might not be for you. ***Note: There are desk converters that do not take a lot of desk space. Those are the ones that utilize the mechanical arms for the monitor and the keyboard.***
- There's a rumour that converters aren’t as stable as desks. However, what this really comes down to is that your converter is only as good as the desk it is on. If you have a shaky desk to begin with, even a heavy duty converter would not counter act the wobble.
- Most converters do not allow for the keyboard platform to have various angles
As you get started on your sit/stand adventures, consider this warning! Make sure that your wires are long enough to accommodate both the sitting and standing height of your devices.
We hope this information has helped you in your debate over a new sit/stand desk or a converter.
